Very fine and rare Thomas Russell, London, Makers to the Queen, 18K gold half-quarter repeater perpetual calendar antique pocket watch circa 1874. Fine white enamel dial with indications for the month and date and apertures for day and phases of the moon. Heavy plain polish case with repeater slide in the band. Fine gilt 3/4 plate estimated 20 jewel movement.
Unlike simple calendar watches, this mechanism ""knows"" the number of days in each month and also accounts for leap year. The dial is easy to read with only 12 months displayed. When activated this watch chimes the hours, quarters and half-quarters with good clear tones. This is a rare chiming sequence.
