Fine, scarce, and beautiful French 18K gold and enamel verge and fusee dumb
repeater by Du Tertre, Paris, circa 1740.
The engine turned case with champlevee painted matte enamel flowers and vines.
White enamel dial with bold numbers and fancy gold hands. Insignificant winding
hole chips. The movement with lovely large balance cock pierced and engraved
in an unusual symmetrical pattern of flower heads.
When activated, this watch taps the time on the case using different blows
to designate the hours and quarter hours. It also has a pulse piece
protruding from the case which, when depressed, allows you to feel the strike
rather than hear it.
