English 18K gold, shell and brass English pair case verge and fusee antique
pocket watch by Rowe, London, circa 1760.
Bold white enamel dial (hairlines and filled chips) with black numbers and
blue steel hands. The brass outer case with gold bezel and hinges covered with
pinned tortoise shell with typical cracks, small losses, and repairs.
Fine large pierced and engraved masked balance cock with streamers, the foot and
regulator plate also pierced and engraved. Square baluster pillars.
The catch that released the movement originally protruded through a slot
in the dial. This apparently broke and the slot was filled and a hole drilled in the
case to allow the catch to be pushed open. Still an attractive example.
