Fine Edward Prior English silver and tortoise shell giant quadruple cased verge
and fusee antique pocket watch for the Turkish market circa 1860.
White enamel dial with Turkish numerals and blued steel hands (replaced minute).
The first two cases are polished silver with edge decorations. The third case is tortoise
shell held in place by silver pins. The final case is beautifully cast, chased and engraved.
The movement with pierced and engraved cock, foot and regulator plate.
This watch is unusual because the outer case is silver and so beautifully made; they
are are almost always made of base metal. Also, it is interesting that England was still
making verge watches as late as 1860.
