Fine Swiss 18K gold verge and fusee bell repeater by Les Freres Esquivillion &
Dechoudens, Geneva, circa 1770.
White enamel dial with bold black numerals and fancy gold hands within a stone set bezel.
The beautifully engraved case with pierced sides to allow the sound to escape and
and unusual central shutter rotating to reveal the winding hole.
The movement with gilt brass dust cover and large pierced and engraved balance
cock.
When the pendant is depressed this watch chimes the hours and quarters on a
large bell mounted inside the back of the case.
The case fitted with a pulse piece to allow the wearer to feel rather than hear
the hammer blows, and also with a slide turning the watch into a dumb repeater.
All of this to make the watch useful when the loud bell chimes might disturb.
Loud and clear tone.
