Howard Mershon's III
Scarce Howard Type III keywind movement #15,310 with Mershon's regulator. The regulator arm has a rack which is adjusted by an arm pivoting in the center of the movement to allow for very precise regulation. The balance cock, which is darker than the rest of the movement, is engraved "Mershon's Ratent April 26, 1859." Gilding bright with some spotting. Broken staff. Good enamel dial with one small hairline that will probably wash out. Blued steel hands. These early Howards are some of the most interesting and attractive early American watches. This movement looks better than its picture.
