Fine and handsome, slim and elegant Swiss 18K gold moonphase perpetual calendar minute
repeater by Golay Fils and Stahl, Gneva, circa 1925
Original gilt dial with black markings, blued steel Breguet hands, and apertures for the date and
moon phases. Plain polish case with recessed repeater slide in the band.
Fine nickel estimated 30 jewel movement.
When activated the watch chimes the hours, quarters and minutes on two gongs with
loud and clear tones.
This is a very early example of a perpetual repeater with digital calendar. The only others
we could find were made by Patek Philippe in the 1940's and later.
Daniel Murphy, the original owner of this watch, operated the California Portland Cement Co. in Los
Angeles for 35 years. He was also active in mining, oil and railroads and founded several towns
in Southern California. A foundation in his name still exists.
